Come shellebrate World Turtle Day with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games and our proud Sustainability Partner, GFL Environmental!
This fun outdoor family interactive event will bring awareness to endangered turtles and their habitats within the Niagara Region & Ontario.
- Date and Time: Saturday May 14th, 2022: 10:00 am to 1:00pm
- Location: Woodend Conservation Area (1 Taylor Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake
Llimited enrollment of 80 participants (including parents) together.
- There is free limited parking.
- The recommended age group for this event is ages 5-13.
- Please arrive around 9:45 to check in at registration as our activities will begin at 10:00am
Be prepared to experience the Turtle Journey with 3 separate activities happening simultaneously. Participants will be placed into (4) groups and rotate between 3 activities that include:
- Turtle Scavenger Hunt: Led by the NPCA (NIagara Peninsula Conservation Authority) come and explore the trail to find hidden clues about all types of Turtles. You will learn about the endangerment of Turtles.
- Turtle Craft Activity: Come join us for a guided craft workshop, led by Dena Colling to create a Turtle masterpiece! This activity will be fun, creative, hands on, and educational for all ages. Each child will be able to take home their Turtle craft at the end of the event.
- Niagara College BioBlitz: Come join us for a hike around the Woodend Living Campus property while we learn how to find and identify bugs, birds, amphibians, mammals, and plants.
- GFL Environmental: Come join us and win prizes at the GFL Environmental booth, interactive, educational program on waste management. Even get an up close and personal look at a Big Green GFL Garbage Truck!
Every child will go home with a Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games Turtle T-shirt, a Shelly Plushie, and Herbie’s Gourmet Popcorn! Light snacks will be provided at the event.
