Opening Ceremony
August 6, 2022, 8pm at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines
The Opening Ceremony marked the beginning of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.
On Saturday, August 6, 2022, athletes, coaches, support staff, spectators and viewers from coast-to-coast-to-coast were taken on a journey at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines.
As is customary, the Opening Ceremony began with a "Parade of Teams", where Games participants marched into the stadium, one provincial or territorial (P/T) team at a time. Each P/T team's delegation was led by their chosen flag bearer. In addition to hearing from a number of speakers, Opening Ceremony participants were treated to an artistic program that showcased Niagara’s culture and history in an entertaining and creative way.
To cap off the event, the cauldron was lit from the Roly McLenahan Torch — marking the official opening of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.
The event set the tone for Niagara 2022 by celebrating the culture, essence and excitement that the Niagara Region is bringing to this 28th edition of the Canada Games.
