RIDLEY COLLEGE BECOMES A PARTNER OF THE NIAGARA 2022 CANADA SUMMER GAMES

The Niagara 2022 Host Society is pleased to announce its partnership with Ridley College. By becoming Partners in PLAY — “Physical Literacy Activities for Youth” — Ridley (JK - Grade 12) is supporting Niagara 2022 by recruiting volunteers through its Recreation and Leadership program. Ridley will also be home to the Territorial Youth Ambassadors from Nunavut, who will volunteer alongside Ridley students and thousands of other Niagara residents to help host a successful Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games, which are scheduled from August 6-21.

As Canada’s largest multi-sport event for youth, the Canada Games are a launchpad for up-and-coming Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympic athletes. Having worked with Canadian organizations like Sport for Life and Active for Life, Ridley is well-positioned to promote, educate and demonstrate the importance of being physically active for life. Ridley’s commitment to volunteerism combined with its dedication to promoting physical activity makes this a tremendous partnership.

“Daily physical activity is a central pillar of Ridley’s approach,” said Jay Tredway, Assistant Head at Ridley College. “We want to bring our voice and experience to the table so that children learn the importance of an active start in sport, and more adults stay active for life. Coming out of the pandemic where access to sport and overall participation has been stunted, these Games can be a powerful vehicle in setting the physical activity and health trajectory of our entire regional population for generations to come.”

“Ridley’s Latin school motto is ‘Terar Dum Prosim’ which translates to ‘May I be consumed in service’,” added Ed Kidd, Headmaster at Ridley College. “From our students to our faculty, staff, and Family Guild [parent association], serving our community is central to our mission as a school. What an incredible opportunity to support and help showcase our home region as it hosts the rest of Canada!”

“We are very excited to welcome Ridley College as a partner to the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games,” added Doug Hamilton, Board Chair of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games. “We are especially grateful to have Ridley College support our volunteer recruitment efforts through a number of programs, and for welcoming Nunavut’s Territorial Youth Ambassadors to Niagara in order for them to participate in this wonderful event.”

Held every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games are the country’s marquee event for amateur sport representing the highest level of national competition for thousands of up-and-coming Canadian athletes. The 28th edition of the Canada Games will mark just the third occasion in the event’s history that it will have taken place in the province of Ontario and the first time in 21 years. In total, more than 5,000 participants and close to 4,500 volunteers are expected to take part in the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games scheduled for August 6-21. The 2022 Games will take place at 19 different venues across the Niagara Region and feature 18 different sports, including an inaugural rugby sevens competition and the return of lacrosse after a 37-year absence from the Games.

Tickets for this summer’s Games are currently available for purchase online.
