CAA INSURANCE TO SUPPORT NIAGARA 2022 CANADA SUMMER GAMES TORCH RELAY

The Niagara 2022 Host Society is delighted to announce its partnership with CAA Insurance Company, who will be providing a Ford F-150 truck and fuel to celebrate the Torch Relay Land Program of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games. Taking place over the next six weekends in each of the Niagara Region’s 12 municipalities, the event will celebrate the upcoming 2022 Canada Summer Games and the Torch’s Niagara journey to the Games’ Opening Ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines on August 6.

The Torch Relay’s land program will run from June 25 through to the end of July, traveling to every corner of Niagara, visiting each municipality before finishing its journey in St. Catharines on July 31 (see schedule and the list of torchbearers here). Having arrived in Port Colborne last Friday by boat on CSL St-Laurent, the Torch will continue to forge a distinctive path ahead of the 2022 Canada Games, making its way across the region by foot, bike and even tractor. Over 150 community members from Niagara will proudly carry the Torch, each carrying it approximately one kilometre across one of the municipalities in the Niagara Region and will play an important role in welcoming Canada’s largest multi-sport event to Niagara.

Since its inception, CAA has been a community-focused organization and a strong proponent of supporting local organizations and businesses. Niagara’s been home to a CAA club for more than 110 years, and there is no better way to tie in CAA’s community support than with the Torch Relay, which hits all 12 local municipalities in the lead up to the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Held every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games are the country’s marquee event for amateur sport representing the highest level of national competition for thousands of up-and-coming Canadian athletes. The 28th edition of the Canada Games will mark just the third occasion in the event’s history that it will have taken place in the province of Ontario and the first time in 21 years. In total, more than 5,000 participants and close to 4,500 volunteers are expected to take part in the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games scheduled for August 6-21. The 2022 Games will take place at 19 different venues across the Niagara Region and feature 18 different sports, including an inaugural rugby sevens competition and the return of lacrosse after a 37-year absence from the Games.
