Niagara 2022 partners with Peters Construction Group

The Niagara Host Society is thrilled to announce that Peters Construction Group is officially partnering up with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games as a sponsor.

Based out of Stevensville, Welland and St. Catharines, Peters Construction Group were largely responsible for a sizable portion of the work completed at Canada Games Park (CGP), especially in the early days of construction.

Specifically, they built the storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains, the parking lot, and all of the major earthworks at CGP, while also doing the excavating for the sub trades (such as plumbers and electricians), digging the foundations, backfilling, and completing the aggregate hauling for the entire project site. Moreover, at the south entrance of the facility along Schmon Parkway, Peters Construction Group alone upgraded the sanitary and water lines — a critical improvement that will permit CGP to be fully operational once it opens and begins to see community use next year.

Peters Construction Group is also undertaking much of the construction work at the new Henley Rowing Centre (HRC), another legacy facility of the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Being built at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course in Port Dalhousie, the HRC will feature accessible change rooms and training facilities that will satisfy the need for essential off-water training and support facilities on Henley Island.

“It’s very exciting for the Niagara Region to be able to host the Canada Games,” said Darren Peters, President of Peters Excavating, a multi-disciplined heavy civil contractor that is part of the team of companies called Peters Construction Group. “To be affiliated with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games, including Canada Games Park and the Henley Rowing Centre, is pretty special to us. We can’t wait to see what this event entails when it finally happens in 2022 with all the celebrations and events."

“We are very excited to have Peters Construction Group join us as a partner,” said Doug Hamilton, Board Chair of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games. “Having already contributed to the legacy of the Games through their work at Canada Games Park and the Henley Rowing Centre, we are extremely grateful for their support as a sponsor. The 2022 Canada Summer Games are a once-only opportunity for Niagara, and the support from community partners, like Peters Construction Group, is critical to maximizing this opportunity to host Canada’s largest multi-sport event.”

Held every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games are the country’s marquee event for amateur sport representing the highest level of national competition for thousands of up-and-coming Canadian athletes. More than 5,000 participants and close to 4,500 volunteers are expected to take part in Canada’s largest multi-sport event in the Niagara Region from August 6-21, 2022.
